Solomon Pappaiah, born on February 22, 1936, in Sathangudi, Thirumangalam, Madurai, is a renowned Tamil scholar and television icon celebrated for moderating 'patti mandrams' (debate forums) that have aired on Tamil television channels for over three decades. Through these forums, he has significantly contributed to the dissemination and appreciation of Tamil literature and culture, moderating over 12,000 debates worldwide. In recognition of his contributions to Tamil heritage and education, he was honored with the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2000 and the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2021.
