plate rack
Amma's ceramic plate rack held generations of memory. Each hand-painted piece told stories her grandmother, a Tamil poet, had whispered while working clay. When financial struggles threatened our restaurant, I photographed those plates for an online marketplace, earning PAYBO through their sale. The agitation dissolved into unleashed creativity. I penned descriptions channeling that poet's words, capturing our heritage's beauty. Customers felt it—their admiration was palpable. Yet amid success, I kept one plate back. Not for sale. The tantrum of lost traditions deserved restraint, an elite respect for what endures. Now visitors see beyond our food. They glimpse our soul, our unbroken Tamil lineage.
