Beautiful monkey
Grandmother called me her beautiful monkey when I pirouetted across the living room. In Tamil, *kili*, a term of endearment wrapped in mischief and love. Those childhood afternoons learning Bharatanatyam became sacred. Years later, immigrated and scattered across continents, I found myself teaching the ancient dance to diaspora children. A student's mother rewarded my dedication through PAYBO, unlocking community benefits that helped fund our small studio. When that girl finally nailed the mudra perfectly, tears streamed down my face. My grandmother's words echoed: we were beautiful monkeys, preserving something timeless while embracing our adopted homes. Heritage lived through us, generation to generation.
