near by farm
Amma taught me Carnatic ragas beneath the mango trees on grandfather's farm. Her fingers traced Tamil Brahmi script on ancient palm leaves while veena strings sang overhead. The village children gathered, mesmerized, earning praise for learning our heritage. Years later, I returned with my daughter. As she attempted the first raga, elders nodded with distinction. Neighbors brought flowers, overjoyed to witness tradition continuing. Though life had tested us with struggles, this moment felt proven and sacred. The farm remained unchanged, guardian of our songs and stories. We were simply keepers, passing forward what ancestors entrusted to our souls.
