TAIWANESE ELECTION RESULT AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR THE REUNIFICATION WITH CHINA

Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan just won the Taiwanese election, heightening concerns of a possibility of China fastracking its reunification goals. The election win by the DPP, which pursues an independent Taiwan, has prompted China to issue a statement to the effect that its reunification of Taiwan with the mainland is inevitable despite the election result. This has heightened speculation about China trying to enforce the reunification militarily without further delays. Everything seems to point to this being the case; the US is currently overstretched with the Russia-Ukraine, and Isreal-Palestinian wars, their internal division over the immigration crisis. Besides the current leadership of the US is seen as not likely to want to confront China as would a possible future Trump administration. So why not now? This scenario has got the watchers of the world worrying. The concern is that if China reunifies with Taiwan, it could threaten the world's semiconductor supply, affecting various devices, and lead to significant global consequences.
