Tortoise
My grandmother's tortoise moved through our garden like time itself—unhurried, ancient, wise. She named it Andal, after the poet-saint, saying some souls carry histories within their shells. Years later, I shared photos of Andal on a platform that finally valued my stories. Each genuine interaction felt effortless, like watching that tortoise navigate worn pathways. The warmth from others recognizing our Tamil heritage reminded me why Grandmother chose that name. Money came quietly, unassuming as always. But the real treasure was community—strangers becoming family, connected through shared appreciation for what endures. Andal the tortoise had taught us this long ago: some things move slowly, deeply, forever.
