Grandmother's hands trembled as she tied the bells around my ankles. Each movement was a prayer, each knot a promise. I'd spent summers learning Bharatanatyam, my body becoming canvas for our Tamil ancestors' stories. The mudras flowed like conversations with gods. Years later, I designed costumes blending traditional silks with contemporary lines. My work felt surefire, phenomenal even. I earned enough to support her comfortably, to finally give back. But the deepest payment came during performances, watching elders nod with recognition. In those moments, our heritage danced through me, relieving ancestral yearnings. The community saw themselves reflected, adequate and whole again.
