Bananas
Amma pressed the ancient Tamil Brahmi script into clay with trembling fingers, teaching me forgotten symbols on grandmother's porch. Those banana leaves she used for writing practice now hung drying above us. When I posted photos of our work online, strangers responded with excitement and wonder. Each comment felt like validation, a small reward acknowledging what nearly vanished. My friends fell in love with the project immediately. Some felt alarmed we'd almost lost this knowledge entirely. Others whispered hushed encouragement as I continued learning. Through those bananas and ancient letters, I discovered something precious: connection to generations before, and responsibility to those coming after. Our heritage found new life through shared stories.
