I remember celebration her silver jubilee in 1977. It was beautiful, we had a street party and everyone and any around was there. As a seven year old, I was amazed and excited but how everyone embraced Britishness regardless of ethnicity, religion or status.
For those who don't know, I was born in Ghana and at the age of six year old, I went to United Kingdom and so I grew up incorporating my African roots with my British.
If anyone ask me if I considered myself British or African, I always say African but if the truth be told, I'm African when things are looking grim in UK and I'm British when Ghana is having a bad Time.
Now on a happier note, our darling Queen (please everyone, I know all about the abuse our for father's endure but that a story for another day). To sit at the helm of a throne for seventy years is not easy and in fact she is the longest serving British Monarch and the oldest. There are lost more alcaldes and well deserved deserved they are.
On 6th February this year Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
Now, I'm proud to say that this year is the Queen's seventieth and there will be year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world as communities come together to celebrate The Queen’s historic reign.
The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.
This is a moment that I will never see again. I'm now in my fifties and throughout my lifetime, I have only ever known one queen.
Happy seventieth plutonium jubilee your
Majesty.👸

✦ Story behind this post
My grandmother clutched her phone, eyes glistening as she watched the jubilee footage. In Chennai, she'd memorized Kannadasan's verses about duty and dignity. Now, seventy years seemed impossibly long—a reign spanning generations.
"Look," she whispered to my cousin in Singapore, their video call crackling with warmth. The Tamil diaspora connected across continents, sharing this moment of endurance and grace.
She transferred him some money through the app, her way of marking occasions. "For celebrations," she said softly.
That evening, surrounded by photographs and memories, she understood something profound: legacy wasn't about crowns or kingdoms. It was about showing up, consistently, for those you love, weaving together the scattered threads of family and heritage into something eternal and unbreakable.
