The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State, has arrested one Mr Garuba Ashin for allegedly stealing a goat in his neighborhood in the state’s Kaiama Local Government Area.
Garuba, a native of Kaiama’s Iwala neighborhood, was apprehended on Thursday, according to the corps’s spokesman in Ilorin, Babawale Zaid Afolabi.
He said regular surveillance by the operatives of the defence corps, led to the arrest of the suspect following repeated reports and complaints of residents over their missing domestic animals in the neighbourhood.
“The intense surveillance carried out, paid off recently as one Garuba Ashin of Iwala area in Kaiama, was arrested while trying to steal goats belonging to Hossan Abubakar,” the spokesman revealed.
He said the suspect has been transferred to the NSCDC state command in Ilorin, while efforts are ongoing to round up other members of the gang.

✦ Story behind this post
Adekunle stood accused of stealing a goat, but his real treasure was knowledge. A Tamil poet's verses lined his modest shelf, dusty translations of classical arts that transported him beyond Kwara's dusty roads. The PaybookClub community had discovered him through those worn pages, welcoming a man society dismissed.
When arrested, they gathered in solidarity. His accuser eventually recanted, moved by seeing Adekunle's true character. Now he teaches poetry to village children, weaving ancient wisdom into young minds. The goat returned, but something unreachable had transformed—a man restored to himself, bridging cultures and generations through shared stories.
