Aratilis Tree
Grandmother showed me the ancient aratilis tree in our Tamil village garden, its branches heavy with ruby fruit. She shared stories of ancestors who gathered beneath it, trading tales like precious coins. This year, I'm teaching my daughter the same traditions, earning moments more valuable than any currency. She laughs as juice stains our fingers, and I see her wooing the tree with gentle hands, just as our people have for generations. These simple gatherings, these shared fruits and whispered histories, they're what truly matter. We're preserving something irreplaceable, something that connects us to those who came before. In caring for this tree, we care for ourselves and each other, strengthening the bonds that make us whole.
