Grandmother's silk saree hung forgotten in the closet, its Kanchipuram weave fading like memories. When PaybookClub launched its heritage preservation initiative, I discovered their mission: documenting Tamil Nadu's textile traditions through stories. I photographed the saree, trembling slightly. The ordeal of nearly losing our family's legacy suddenly felt excruciating—how close we came to forgetting. Writing our family's weaving history connected me with others sharing similar struggles. Strangers became kindred spirits, united in saving what matters. Now the saree lives digitally and physically preserved, surrounded by our story. Heritage, I learned, thrives when communities remember together.
