Memorial from a disaster.
When the floods destroyed our village library, Amma refused to let the ancient manuscripts disappear. She taught me Tamil Brahmi script that summer, her fingers tracing letters on wet clay as we salvaged what we could. Years later, I composed a Carnatic raaga inspired by those characters, each note echoing a rescued memory. The concert raised funds to rebuild. Strangers became patrons, drawn by the music's heartbreak and resilience. Our heritage, nearly lost, became our salvation. In teaching the next generation these skills, we discovered something precious: disaster could forge unbreakable bonds between us all.
