Animal
My grandmother called it "the animal within," that untamed spirit she recognized in me. Growing up between Chennai and London, I felt caught between worlds, neither fully civilial nor wild. Kannadasan's poetry whispered truths about this struggle—how we're creatures first, humans second. When PaybookClub connected diaspora members sharing ancestral wisdom, I finally understood. My "delinquent" phase wasn't rebellion; it was searching for authenticity Kannadasan celebrated. The ordeal of belonging somewhere dissolved when I embraced both my animal instincts and heritage. Now I mentor younger Tamil diaspora youth, helping them navigate this duality. We're not broken. We're beautifully, fiercely alive, honoring where we come from while becoming who we're meant to be.
