indeginous lantern
My grandmother's hands trembled as she carved Tamil Brahmi symbols into clay, ancient script dancing under lamplight. She'd nearly forgotten the shapes her mother taught her decades ago. When I photographed that earthen lantern glowing with inherited knowledge, something shifted. The grit required to preserve what nearly vanished, the clockwork precision of each deliberate stroke, revealed a quiet strength. That lantern earned PAYBO recognition, but more importantly, it sparked something in our neighborhood. Now children gather, learning script through light. Her dedication became our collective glow, reminding us that heritage lives through hands willing to remember, through stories worth telling, through lanterns illuminating our shared belonging.
