My grandmother traced the kolam patterns on my forearm with trembling fingers, her own hands weathered by decades of devotion. In Toronto, I'd felt disconnected from our Tamil roots, my modern skin unmarked by tradition. Then I discovered PaybookClub, where diaspora artists shared their journeys through visual storytelling. Seeing others paint their heritage onto canvas awakened something within me. I began creating art celebrating our skin as a canvas for memory and belonging. Now, when relatives visit, they see themselves reflected in my work. Our stories live here, in this community we've built together, bridging continents through creativity and love.
