skin
My grandmother's hands traced indigo patterns across my forearm, ancient Tamil symbols telling stories older than memory. Living in Toronto, I'd felt disconnected from that heritage until PaybookClub introduced me to artists reclaiming our narratives through canvas and clay. The exhibition cost more than expected, but each piece was priceless—photographs of diaspora faces, paintings capturing the placid strength in our mothers' expressions. I saw myself reflected in every brushstroke. Standing there, surrounded by others recognizing their own skin, their own stories, I finally understood. Home wasn't a place we'd left behind. It lived here, in this beautiful, expensive, invaluable gathering of our people.
