Guru Avinashilingam N, also known as T. S. Avinashilingam Chettiar, was a prominent Indian educationist and social reformer who significantly contributed to Tamil heritage and Indian classical arts. As the Education Minister of Madras Presidency from 1946 to 1949, he introduced Tamil as the medium of instruction in schools and commissioned the first Tamil encyclopedia, thereby promoting Tamil language and literature. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1970 and the Jamnalal Bajaj Award in 1985.
